We're doing a project very similar to yours, but our focus will be on the campus map directories.
Our group decided on doing a project focused on the information and location layout of the campus map directories. Focus: Who (what kind of users) uses the map directories? How effective is the current design of the map directories? Where are these directories placed? Are they the best locations? How useful is the information on map directories?
We noticed that at some point, each of us had needed a map of the campus and either we couldn't find one or the map didn't provide enough information. Some of us were standing in front of a map directory and another student came over to look for something. It turned out the building was on the map but there was no indication what or where the building was. The directory didn't provide enough information to that particular user (3rd year undergraduate.)
